The amylin receptor is a protein in the brain that acts as a gateway through which ß-amyloid — the toxic protein central to Alzheimer’s Disease — exerts its damaging effects. Dr. Jhamandas discovered that blocking this receptor can significantly reduce the neurotoxic and neuroinflammatory effects of ß-amyloid, making it a highly promising therapeutic target.
What types of drugs is Egeiro developing?
Egeiro is developing two types of therapeutics:
- Peptides — Highly specific, brain-permeable and stable peptides that block a subtype of the amylin receptor.
